Sea Monsters

Key messages, Curriculum and Resources

Learners will see biological and earth sciences through the added perspectives of history, maths, engineering and design technologies.

Examine communities of prehistoric marine animals – their adaptations, behaviours, relationships and the evidence that reveal these stories to us.

Recognise why Queensland’s palaeontologists find fossils of sea creatures in the desert, and how they provide clues about the changing surface of the Earth.

Understand how we use modern technologies (and modern animals) to re-create ancient animals and their habitats.

The following Teacher Resources were produced by Queensland Museum Lifelong Learning staff to complement the Sea Monsters exhibition experience:

Early Years Teacher Resource

Primary School Teacher Resource

Secondary School Teacher Resource

Each Teacher Resource includes tabulated Science curriculum links, stimulus questions to engage your students and an age-appropriate Q&A with the Exhibition Curator and Palaeontologist, Dr Espen Knutsen (right).

Downloadable maps of the exhibition layout and themes are available for teachers, supervising adults and students. These can help with preparing a your visit or can be an learning tool for navigation or multiliteracies.
